The district health department in Amritsar, Punjab, has started door-to-door collection of blood samples for Covid-19 testing in order to find out the extent of the infection. To further enhance the prevention of the disease, the district health department is also working to implement more effective measures. The Amritsar district municipal corporation has established two containment zones, and as many micro-containment zones as possible. More mobile vans are likely to be pressed into service in the coming days.
A new state-of-the-art Covid-19 testing lab has been inaugurated in Amritsar. This lab will be able to test 1,000 plus samples per day, whereas the previous facility could only handle 400 samples daily. The new Covid-19 lab in Amritsar has been manned by two teams of doctors, who will be testing samples of people who are suspected of the virus.
The government of Punjab has also stepped in to provide more resources to the COVID laboratory, including an expanded capacity for the collection of blood samples. The health department in Amritsar has said that the lab will be able to handle 100 plus blood samples per day, on average. It has said that repeat testing before 24 hours is not recommended. It is unclear whether this will be enough, but it is worth pursuing the case.
